Seriously, I can't go a Christmas season without watching this movie. I've been watching it for as long as I remember, and it just gets funnier as I get older. Maybe it's that I'm starting to relate to it more and more ;) One of my favorite things to do is sit around with the rest of my family, who also has a GREAT appreciation for Chevy Chase's finest, and basically recite the entire movie. It's particularly fun when my brother is there, because he actually CAN recite the entire movie.
I think one of the great things about it is that it is so easy to relate to. Who doesn't have a cousin Eddie or an Aunt Bethany (or two) in their family? I sure know I do. I like to play my part of relating by Griswolding up my house every year with Christmas lights. Last year's creation took almost 12 hours. By myself, I must add with pride. Yes, I was THAT redneck house in the neighborhood (and for many around).
So when is too soon? I think maybe Thanksgiving. I'll have all of my family over, and what better way to officially kick off the holiday season than viewing #1 (of 30) of this timeless holiday classic?
To make this post a thousand times more fun, leave some of your favorite Christmas Vacation quotes from the movie in the comment section. I'm getting a smile on my face just thinking about them! To get you started:

P.S. Other holiday favorites well worth mentioning:
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol, but it HAS to be the George C. Scott version. I get chills watching it.

I absolutely LOVE this movie. I have recorded Chevy Chase's rant at the end of the movie, when he gets the Jelly of the Month Club bonus. I play it at work, whenever I get frustrated with my boss.
What about "A Christmas Story?"
I have actually never seen a Christmas Story. Ever. My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I've never sat down during one of those 24 hour marathons and had a go at it.
That is BY FAR my most favorite Christmas movie of all time, too!! It's just hilarious. I really still love Home Alone...probably because I can say the lines word for word. And another good one is Elf!
My Pops was a divorcee ... thrice over.
So when his best friend used to invtire our family over for his yearly X-mas party, he'd always have a sign greeting my dad and his kids ... "Welcome Griswolds ...AGAIN"
Trauma, I tell you, hilarious trauma.
I must say my favorite is It's a Wonderful Life!
one of my favorite christmas movies as well. :) thanks for the smile.
Happy PSF!
do you know that i have never seen it? i am thinking this may be a "must see" for me this season...if i survive!
you need to see Christmas Story. it is great.
ha ha- I HAVE never seen this movie!!
I LOVE Holiday movies....bring it on. The Christmas Story is one of my faves....good old Ralphie!
My favorites are A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Sound of Music, which is NOT a Christmas movie, but is on TV during Christmas.
It's become one of our best family traditions :-)
never too soon for that movie!!
I love Christmas movies. I think I am partial to the Charlie Brown movies.
Now I do like The Christmas Carol, but it has to be the Muppet version. Little Robin as Tiny Tim is so cute.
I would say that once Thanksgiving is over is a good time to watch Christmas movies, put up decorations, start shopping in earnest, etc.
Tonight we watched Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. My kids like the toast and popcorn for T-dinner.
I hate to even admit this, but I have never seen Christmas Vacation. Will you still visit my blog?!
I can't believe all the commenters who have not seen Christmas Vacation! Seriously?!!?!?!??!
LOVE this movie. Its not a favorite quote per say, but my fave part is near the end when the SWAT team busts in... and Ellen has her hand on *ahem* Clark's family jewels... then she takes her hand off in order to shake hands and says "welcome to our home" to his boss... and then she puts her hand back where it was! LOL cracks me up every time!
alright... off topic, I hope your watching the ama's -- did Christina get work done???
You mean there's a cut off date to when you're supposed to stop watching Christmas movies? LOVE Christmas Vacation (the cat behind the tree...). We started the Santa Claus trilogy yesterday, and then we'll watch Jingle All the Way, Preacher's Wife (yummy Denzel Wasahington), Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, It Happened One Christmas (the Marlo Thomas version of It's a Wonderful Life) and then somewhere in there I will give in and suffer through my Husband's fav-- The Christmas Story.
I say watch them when you want! My must watch every year is A Christmas Story and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
I have to admit I have never watched any of the "old classic" holiday movies. It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol...never seen any of them. And to be honest, I have no desire to. Give me Christmas Vacation any day!
