I thought I'd post a few pictures from Halloween. It was very fun, but VERY tiring. Livers and I went with my parents to the mountains, and for some reason she didn't nap all that much in the car. This led to some very trying times on Halloween night (and hence very few pictures).
I had had great aspirations of dressing Livers up as a box of Mac-N-Cheese, but the spray paint I used on her box ended up bubbling, so I had to go look for her a costume the day before Halloween. The first place I tried was one of those Halloween outlet stores that come around, but I found them to be WAAAAAAY too expensive. I could get her multiple outfits from Target for the $30 for costumes the place was charging. I was about to pull out the sewing machine and some cheap Wal-Mart fabric to make her a costume when I saw the most adorable costume at Children's Place: a penguin! Mama LOVES her some penguins (and so does Livers), and sweetening the deal was the fact that it was half off. So for a meager $12 I got her a cute costume she loved for no effort. Way to go procrastination!
A quick shot before we left for the Halloween party. Note the look of extreme excitement in Livers' face.
Some neighbor friends of ours like to do a Halloween get-together for kids and family, so we decided to do that and then stop by my parents so they could see Livers. It was a lot of fun, but there was so much action going on that Livers' poor brain was on overdrive and she wouldn't sit still. She was bouncing from one thing to the other up until trick-or-treating. She didn't even want to stop for one of her favorite dinners: hot dogs.
Livers stopping to look at the neighbor starting his 4-wheeler for the hay ride. She had been trying to break into the bag of marshmallows. About two seconds later she rolled out her lip and looked at me in fear of the 4-wheeler, saying "Mama!"
I knew the stroller wasn't going to work, so I rolled it back to the party and took off with Livers on my shoulders. It was a constant from hip-to-shoulders walk all night, and I thought my arms were going to give out. Every time I tried to get her to walk she would do one of those "go limp and melt to the ground" routines toddlers are famous for. She also kept reaching into her candy bucket for candy, and I finally gave in and gave her a Twix to keep her quiet. Should've done it a long time ago, because she was an angel once she had a little candy to munch on.
By the time J and I got her strapped into her car seat to go to my parents she was about to fall asleep, and she was definitely out by the time we made the five minute ride to their house. We only stayed long enough to show off the costume, and after that we promptly went home, upon which Mommy lost her temper because Livers was too tired to eat and instead threw her food on the floor. I put her in bed and she was asleep within seconds.
Hopefully next year will be a more enjoyable Halloween.....

On an amusing note, every time Livers wants a piece of her Halloween candy that she knows is stashed in the pantry, she looks at us and goes "Candy Bars! Twick or Tweet!"

oh that Livers! ... i don't know who looks more excited, Livs or the the owl carved into the pumpkin next to you!
next year, you'll need your running shoes, as she'll be completely unstoppable, with NO desire to be on your shoulders or in your arms (until she is completely worn out and becomes a cute little sack of tired potatoes).
Oh that is too cute!!!! At least she left the hat on. Avery can't stand things on his head so I knew we couldn't go with a costume that had head gear!
And he does the same thing - he sees the candy bag and says "trick or treat" - it's too funny!!!!
cute cute cute...
what an adorable costume! Sounds like Livers had way to much excitment for one day! Hopefully next year will be better.
Sorry the evening didn't quite turn out as planned. But hey, she is totally cute and that is all that matters. :)
I can't believe you are ready to put up Christmas lights! Isn't there a law that you have to wait until the day after Thanksgiving? :)
She has the cutest little face poking out of that costume.
Livers! A penguin! Oh. My. God.
And, yes, twick or tweet ... give that girl a Snickers, already.
WAGON!!!! Get a wagon!! They work the best for Halloween - and get used to the up an down and carrying! I've done it about . . umm . . let's see - probably 5 years now!!
She sure is cute!!
Hi Lindsay
Thanks for joining me on my virtual walk.
I have enjoyed catching up with your blog news. The botanical gardens look beautiful and my sort of place. Your daughter looked so cute as a penguin at Halloween. Your owl pumpkin is amazing. I will have to give that a try next year.
Best Wishes
Lindsay
The trick or treating gets better the older they get. And I have to say that with a 5 yr oldand 2.5 yr old, the older has done a great job at showing the younger one hwo to do it right : ). Here's to no meltdowns next year!
I love that costume, I mean really love it. She looks so adorable!
